1981 to 1982 - graduated from the Andizhan
Vocational College as an accountant;
from November 3, 1982 – did his military
service in the Soviet Armed Forces as a air technicians at military unit

August 1, 1983 to October 30, 1987 – a
cadet of the Kharkov Higher Air Force School named after S.I. Gritsevets;

corps – a pilot-instructor of
October 30, 1987 – graduated from the
Kharkov Gritsevts military aviation college for pilots, specialization

course at the international center for the training systems of the State
Oil and Gas Academy at the Aerospace ecology department, specialization
– conjugate processing for aerospace materials. Upon graduating got qualification
of engineer-ecologist and the master degree of ecological management.
OCCUPATION BEFORE JOINING COSMONAUT CORPS:
From December 8, 1987 – before joining
the cosmonaut corps – a pilot-instructor of air training regiment 716 for
the fifth central course of the Air Force personnel retraining of the Central
Asian Military Command, Togmak. Piloted the following jets: L-29, L-39,
Mig-21.

Board decision selected for the cosmonauts corps of the Air Force Cosmonaut
training center (group 11);
August 8, 1990 – by The Soviet Ministry
of Defence order assigned for a position of cosmonaut-tester candidate
of the fourth group of the cosmonaut corps in the Cosmonaut training center;
from April 24, 1992 – cosmonaut–researcher
of the second group.

BACK-UP ACTIVITY:
March 1998 – February 1999 – a commander
and flight-engineer, and from August 15, 1998 – a commander
of the Primary Expedition-27 backup crew along with Andre-Deshays-Claudie
(France) and M. Fulier (Slovakia);
February 20, 1999 – a backup for V. Afanasyev,
the commander of the Soyuz TM-29;
February 24, 1998 – a commander and flight-engineer
of the Primary Expedition-27 back-up crew;
March 1999 to March 2000 – a commander
for the Primary Expedition-28 backup crew to the Mir space station together
with P. Vinogradov;
April 4, 2000- a backup for S. Zalyotin,
the commander of the Soyuz TM-30 mission.
SPACE FLIGHTS PERFORMED:
The first flight From 23 to January 31,
1998 – amission specialist of the
STS-89 Endeavor mission. The docking and joint flight with the Mir
space station from 24 to January 29. Flew along with T. Wilcutt, J. Reilly,
M. Anderson, B. Dunbar, A. Thomas and also with A. Soloveyev, P. Vinogradov
and D. Wolf. Flight duration:8 days 19 hours 46 min. 54 sec.
The second flight - October 14, 2004 –
April 25, 2005- a flight engineer of the ISS and
the Soyuz TTMA-5 commander together with Leroy Chiao. Performed two EVAs
of total duration 9 hours 59 minutes. Flight duration:192
days 19 hours 01 min.
