department of the Yu. Gagarin Air Force Academy.

the Air Force Cosmonaut training center (the eighth group);
October 6, 1987 – by the order of the
Air Force Commander-in-chief was appointed as a candidate for the sixth
cosmonaut-tester group;

of the first group.

BACK-UP ACTIVITY:
November 1997 - October 2000 – a commander
of the Soyuz TM backup crew for the first ISS expedition along with M.
Turin and K. Bowersox (USA).
SPACE FLIGHTS PERFORMED:
The first mission March 14 - July 7, 1995
– a commander of the Soyuz TM-21 (used for the launch) and Mir orbital
station and the Atlantis( landed aboard it) on the Primary Expedition-18
along with G. Strekalov and N. Thagard (USA). From June 29 through July
4, 1995 also flew along with A. Solovyov, N. Budarin (PE-19), from June
29 to July 7 along with the US astronauts: R. Gibson, C. Precourt, A. Baker,
G. Habaugh & B. Dunbar (the STS-71crew who saw the first docking of
the Shuttle with the Mir station). During the mission made three EVA operations.

The second mission August 11 to December
17, 2002 – an ISS pilot aboard
the Shuttle along with M. Turin and F. Cubertson (USA). From August
13 to August 21, 2001 flew along with U. Usachev, D. Voss, S.
Helms. During the mission had four Eva operations. Total EVA duration:
18 hours 40 min. Mission duration: 128 days 20 hours 44 min.
