EDUCATION:
1979 - finished Schekino secondary school No.13;
1983 - graduated from the Borisoglebsk Air Force pilots school, specialization – command tactical fighter-bomber aviation and got the pilot-engineer diploma;
February 1, 1992 to April 7, 1994 - had the correspondence training at the International center for the training systems and acquired a specialty of the aerospace ecological materials conjugate processing. He was given a qualification of engineer-ecologist and received the international certificate of the master for the ecological management.
OCCUPATION BEFORE JOINING COSMONAUT CORPS:
1983 - at the command of the Air Force Commander-in-chief of the Moscow Military Command;
from December 24, 1983 – a pilot, from October 29, 1986 – a senior pilot of Guards fighters aviation regiment 32 of fighters aviation division 9 for the Moscow Military Command;
from April 17, 1987 – a commander of the aviation squad of the same regiment,
from December 19, 1989 – a commander of the aviation squad of aviation brigade 274 of fighters aviation division 9 for the Air Force of the Moscow Military Command.
DATE OF JOINING COSMONAUT CORPS (GROUP NUMBER, DATE):
May 11, 1990 - by the State Interdepartmental Board decision recommended for the enrollment in the cosmonauts corps of the Air Force Cosmonaut training center (group 11).
August 8, 1990 - by The Soviet Ministry of Defence order assigned for a position of cosmonaut-tester candidate of the fourth group of the Yu. Gagarin Cosmonaut training center;
From April 22, 1992 – a cosmonaut-tester of the second cosmonaut group.
RATING:
May 31,1988 – a first-class military pilot (total flying time more than 1150 hours);
February 11, 1994 – an instructor of the Air Force airborne regiment (more than 120 parachute jumps);

BACK-UP ACTIVITY:

The second mission - from October 30 to November 10, 2002 – a commander of the ISS fourth visiting crew onboard the Soyuz TMA-1 along with Frank De Vinne (flight-engineer 1, ESA, Belgium) and Yu. Lonchackov (flight-engineer 2)
